Sultry at Nationals 2009

So here's all about Sultry's trip to Perth and Nationals 2009Day OneSultry came out looking hot in their sexy new shirts on Thursday morning, fired up to be at Nationals! Everyone looked fitter, stronger and better than ever before. We found our fast running short game to look impressive with a 13-6 win against Bush combined with some SA ring-ins.Game Two and we went in fired up and played hard against the beautiful Factory Girls'(Canberra) long game, but in the end lost in universal point 16-15, basically, to some awesome Tara grabs - that girl can catch anything!!Game Three and a bit down after the loss to Factory Girls, we started by going down a few points to Sugar Mags and needed Captain Tam's inspiration to bring us back. In the end Sultry came second 14-12, to a small but strong Newcastle roster that ended up placing 3rd.Day TwoPrimal lost three on the first day and came out angry, to say the least. The lack of spirit in this game brought the Sultry girls down ten minutes in, and though we clawed back three of the points and had the FS boys on the sideline to cheer us on in the end, we couldnt finish it and went down in universal point again (I forget the score). Special Commendation to Mel who turned into a LAYOUT D MACHINE !!!!The three losses bumped us to the second bracket, but a circle of wins put us in the second slot in the bracket and into the 5-8 playoffs. Unfortunately draw-wise, our game against Primal counted, and we now we had to beat the JD-coached WA Kaos to make the 5-6 playoff. The ongoing onslaught of 2 hour games, the challenging spirit and the speed, flukey hucks and determination of Kaos were too much for us though. Kaos got up early and we never got it back, going down 12-6.Next up, Indies. The Adelaide team had also lost a few times and were keen to get some points on the board. They had some strong handlers in the wind and some great layout D's but after so many close games we were out to finish what we had started and took it out this time, with a wicked fence and some of our own layout D's... universal point again: 17-16.Day ThreeOur turn for the late start, we came out at 11am for the final pool game against Honey G's. They said they were out to win the party and were certainly fun to play against (and with). We defeated them 17-1 to us, but dont think they'll be so easy to beat next year when they've been playing together'longer - they are already taking layout grabs and generally being spectacular, just werent able to string it together especially in the face of 5 double happiness points, endzone conversions and án Eireann-layout-d-to-hammer-score!! Followed up with licorice fun provided by Molly and some Honey-bee evolution. After lunch, we had a Kaos re-match to see who would go into the 5-6 playoff. This time we gave them the game they (and we deserved) and went head to head. We were excited for the fun rematch and this time traded points, going down universal point in yet another nailbiter!! I think the hammers of the previous game had gone to our head and as the wind rose, they turned out to be a bit risky, though Bree smashed a great one in with the wind for Mel to score in the corner.Day FourSultry joined the Perth boys, Sublime, in the party madness on the night of Day 3 (one of the best frisbee parties I for one have been to) and a few members (who shall remain unnamed) may still have been drunk in the last game. I also have it under advisement that someone (certainly not me) wore hotpants for the entire last day! The game, another rematch, against the Factory Girls, was once again a points trader. I cannot for the life of me remember the final score, but in the end we did go down (by two i think), though not for lack of effort... !!EnduranceThe only Sultry game that went for less than TWO HOURS was the Honey-G's game on Friday arvo. I am a bit of a flake so some of the order in days two and three may be mixed up!! We had dancing delightfulness provided by Lauras great playlists, the Sultry MVP pose-off and the Sultry speakers and laminated rules for spirit provided by Molly and co.Final ThoughtsThe Womens Final was (not unpredictably) Team Box and Wildcard. Relinquishing an early lead Team Box went down to the Nic-Footer-less (broken collarbone) Wildcard by 2??. 16-14?? Despite the snobbish slap-in-the-face-to-Womens-ultimate lack of commentary, it was an awesome game... better, perhaps, than the Dowle-less Fyshwick vs Chilly final, where Fyshwick put up a token resistance, hardly resembling the team I saw play two days earlier, before Chilly steamed home to reclaim the title. In case you all havent noticed yet, I am not the best with scores, so please feel free to let me know if I have them wrong!!Thanks to Perth for having us!xoxmegzz

Women's League Final

Thanks Eireann for this roundup of the recent WUFL final at Oakman Park

Hello Brisbane Ultimate!

The first women's league of 2009 finished up with a bang. Thanks to everyone who came along and offered support on the sideline and on the bbq.

The game was a bit of a nail-biter with Mellow Black taking an early lead only to have it snatched back by the Titanium Nachos a few points later. Mellow Black managed to take out the half, but only just. Points were traded back and forth for the majority of the game with Mellow Black as the eventual winners.

The game saw some impressive stuff from some of the league's newer players. Titanium Nachos had Mel and Adrienne cutting up the field receiving passes left and right from Jen "Red Death" Campbell and Dominque. Delyse had a standout game making some amazing grabs in the endzone. Stalwarts Maylin and Carol were always there for the dump or ready to give or receive a pass.

Mellow Black just proved a force to be reckoned with! Steph, Phoebe, and Katrina were out for blood in the cup; Jenny was determined not to let anything get past her deep. Emily had positive baby vibes from the sideline and Laura was an O-machine!

Mellow Black took out the chocolate cup this time, but I'm sure Titanium Nachos will be back next season, ready to rumble!

Thanks again to everyone for a great season and your support of the Brisbane Women's League. The more we put into our women's league here in Brisbane, the more we'll be able to get out of it.

The next season will start up in mid-May(running until the end of June), following that, there will be a bit of a break before the next season and women's month in November!

We really do appreciate all of the folks that came out to support the final (and the Firestorm boys for cutting their training session a bit short to cheer us on)! I hope you all enjoyed the bbq and beer (and of course the game as well! See you next season ladies!
